this event features

Paul McGann

Paul McGann is among the UK’s most respected actors, having had a forty-five-year career onstage and the screen, with major appearances including cult classic Withnail and I and television dramas such as The Monocled Mutineer, as well as playing Doctor Who.

Other roles for the small screen were in Luther, Our Mutual Friend, Holby City, appearing in forty episodes, Scottish black comedy drama Annika, and more recently, Mark Gatiss’s Bookish, as well as Hornblower films. He also starred in The Hanging Gale with his brothers, Joe, Stephen and Mark. His first major role onscreen was in the sitcom Give us a Break with Robert Lindsay. Paul received a BAFTA nomination for the lead in The Monocled Mutineer, the acclaimed First World War drama broadcast in 1986. Since its release nearly forty years-ago, in the spring of 1987, Withnail and I, co-starring alongside Richard E. Grant, gradually gained an immense amount of popularity, becoming one of Britain’s biggest cult films. Other big screen appearances include Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun and Alien 3.

To many, Paul is particularly known as Doctor Who, having first played the Time Lord in the 1996 television film. Since then, he has reprised the role in anniversary specials and numerous audio stories for Big Finish Productions. A string of stage appearances since 1981 have included Willy Russell’s John, Paul, George, Ringo… and Bert, Godspell, Much Ado About Nothing and The Seagull. With his distinctive voice, he has narrated several television documentaries.

Please note: As with some former ones, the guests’ appearances are subject to work commitments, which might possibly arise.
